One of the most festive ways to get into the Christmas spirit is through baking! While I have a long way to go before I become Nigella, I had so much fun baking these Christmas Tree Brownies because they’re so darn easy but look so effective! I took inspiration from Zoella (what’s new?) as she made these in her latest baking video. So, I picked up a couple Betty Crocker items for myself, added some green food colouring in and was fully in my element when it came time to decorate. Keep reading to find out how I made these and don’t forget to give this post a “like” if you enjoyed it!
You Will Need
Brownies:
- Betty Crocker Triple Chocolate Fudge Brownie Mix
- 2 extra large eggs
- 125g of melted butter
If you prefer to bake with oil, replace butter for 1/2 cup of vegetable oil and 1 tablespoon of water.
Icing:
- Betty Crocker Creamy Deluxe Vanilla Icing
- Green food colouring
- Sprinkles
- A Snap Lock bag (or an actual piping bag)
Here’s How You Do It
- Preheat your oven to 180°C (160°C fan forced).
- Grease a 20cm square cake pan before lining the base with baking paper.
- Stir the brownie mix, eggs and butter together in a medium sized bowl with a wooden spoon until combined. Then, pour it into your prepared pan and spread it out evenly.
- Bake them in the oven for 30 – 35 minutes or until sticky crumbs cling to a skewer inserted into the centre of the brownie. Cook time may vary depending on your oven, however if you’re after extra fudge brownies, test them after 28 minutes. Keep them in the pan to cool for 10 minutes, then gently remove them from the pan to a wire rack to cool completely.
Make Things Hella Festive
- Once your brownie is completely cool, cut it directly down the centre so you have two skinny rectangles. Then, cut multiple triangles from those two pieces of brownies.
- Grabbing your tub of Betty Crocker icing, spoon some into a bowl before dropping a few drops of green food dye in and mix that through. The more drops of food dye means the darker shade of green you’ll create.
- Once you’re happy with your green icing, spoon it into the corner of a snap lock bag and twist the end of the bag so nothing slides out!
- Snip the corner of your snap lock bag – the bigger the snip, the bigger the piping lines and vice versa! I first cut a teeny tiny hole with the intension of making it bigger if need be, but it turned out to be the perfect size as I wanted the brownie to still show through the icing.
- Once you’ve piped your trees, dust them with sprinkles of your choice to look like fairy lights, and you’re done!
I’m so flipping proud of how these turned out! They were so easy to make as Betty had done all the work for us, and it took me surprisingly only minutes to decorate them all! They look so effective and I’ll definitely be making these again next year, or even once more before Christmas! If you recreate these or it just inspired you to bake anything, tag me a photo or post your link in the comment section below, I’d absolutely love to see more Christmas baking!
