2017 Beauty Favourites

Since the end of the year is fast approaching, it’s time to look back and celebrate the makeup products that helped make 2017 so beauty-ful! I was a full blown beauty junkie in 2016 and bought handfuls of eyeshadows palettes, expensive brushes and a ton of liquid lipsticks all in the same shade of pinky mauve. While my makeup hauls in 2017 have been fewer (and kinder to my bank account), I have definitely found some ride or dies in the last 12 months. Exactly a year ago today I published my 2016 Beauty Favourites, and even though I still use those products all the time, I decided to not mention any of them (with the exception of one) in this post to avoid repetition! So get comfortable, give this post a “like” if you enjoy it and let’s dive into my 2017 Beauty Favourites!

It feels wrong to not go in order of how I go my makeup, so starting with my foundation, my ride of die for 2017 is the Revlon ColourStay foundation for Oily/Combination skin in the shade 150 Buff. I love this foundation for its mostly full coverage finish, longevity, and its ability to look natural on my skin! My favourite concealer of the year is the Maybelline Fit Me! Concealer in the shade 15 Fair. It’s a great shade for my skin as it’s not too light, it has great coverage and it’s super easy to blend!

My other favourite concealer is one I mentioned last year, the Maybelline Master Conceal Concealer, however that formula is much lighter and more full coverage. To complete my complexion trifecta, I always reach for the Revlon ColourStay Pressed Powder in the shade Light. Just like its foundation counterpart, it has amazing coverage and gives my skin a flawless finish! I’ve been using the Revlon foundation and pressed powder for years but am finally putting them in a yearly favourites, so I can’t recommend them enough!

In terms of contouring and bronzing, there is one product I can’t not mention. I featured the Kat Con D Shade + Light Contouring Kit in my 2016 favourites, but since I’ve used it every single day in 2017 and haven’t found any other product to come close to it, it just feels wrong to leave it out! The formulation of these powders is incredible. They’re so pigmented and smooth but just glide on and blend perfectly into your skin. I’m hitting pan on my favourite shades, so I’m thinking of buying those three individually and putting them into a Z Palette! A single bronzer I have also been loving in 2017 is the Too Faced Milk Chocolate Soleil Bronzer. I think it’s slightly darker than the middle shade in the KVD kit, but it blends so nicely and gives my skin an amazing, sun kissed finish!

In terms of mascara, I’ve been loving the Maybelline Lash Sensational Luscious version this year! I bought it on a whim once because the original Lash Sensational was out of stock and I was desperate. I thought I wouldn’t use it much, but it became such a favourite of mine! The brush is similar, if not the same, as the original, and I just love how easy it is to make my lashes so fluttery, fanned out, long and voluminous!

Since I mentioned my Too Faced and Zoeva brushes in last year’s yearly favourites, I didn’t want to mention them again now, but some new brushes I loved in 2017 were two from Kylie Cosmetics! These are from her 2016 holiday collection and they don’t have names, but one is a super fluffy blending brush, and the other is a flat tapped brush. I love using the fluffy brush to effortlessly blend shadows into my crease, and I love using the other to pack on darker shades to my outer corner to easily deepen up any look!

My favourite blush to use in 2017 was hands down the Too Faced Papa Don’t Peach blush! This is a beautiful pinky peachy shade with a slight sheen to it. I don’t think you can see the sheen when it’s on your skin, but I notice when I wear matte blushes, I do feel a bit flatter. The packaging is amazing and it smells like peaches, so I will definitely be using this in 2018! My second favourite blush this year that I used whenever I wasn’t using Papa Don’t Peach is the Too Faced Baby Love Blush! This is a pinky matte blush which is so pigmented and blends so easily into my skin, giving the apples of my cheeks the perfect flush of colour!

In terms of highlighters, I really loved the Too Faced Prismatic highlighter in the shade Ray of Light. While I don’t think it’s as good as my BECCA Champagne Pop highlighter or The Balm Mary Lou Manizer which I featured last year, it’s still a super pretty highlighter, it’s just not as pigmented as the others. This product does thwart everything else though in terms of packaging as it’s absolutely stunning!

Now onto my favourite part – eyeshadows! In 2016 I bought so, so many palettes, but in 2017 I was more restrained and only bought what I desperately wanted! Colourpop brought out so many new products in 2017 and it was only a matter of time before I tried out some of their Single Pressed Powders – and I love them. They’re so pigmented, easy to blend, they have a wonderful variety of shades to pick and choose from, and they’re so damn affordable! I would recommend Colourpop to everyone, but especially if you’re on a budget as their products pack just the same punch, if not more, than high end brands but for quarter of the price. If you’d like to know more about these ColourPop shadows and see swatches, check out my review of them here. In 2017 I also got their limited edition Super Shock Shadow shade Birthday Cake to celebrate the brands birthday, and I love the rose gold shimmer shade so much, so I thought I’d mention it!

The other eyeshadow brand I fell hard and fast for in 2017 was Juvia’s Place! These palettes are honestly out of this world. The pans are huge, the range selection is so original and colourful, and the incredible pigmentation makes them the best eyeshadows I’ve ever tried. I’ve never felt this inspired when looking at an eyeshadow palette before. If you’d like to know more about these palettes, get individual shade break downs and see swatches, check out my review of the Magic palette here and the Zulu palette here!

Finally onto lips! I featured heaps of liquid lipsticks in my 2016 favourites from brands like Too Faced, Kylie Cosmetics, Lime Crime and more. But in 2017, my favourite liquid to matte lipstick was Sugarpill’s Trinket! Trinket is a stunning pinky mauve shade with flecks of gold glitter throughout it! It looks incredible on the lips and takes a run of the mill lipstick to such amazing heights! I’m so into lip glosses right now and hope that trend continues on into 2018. Throughout this year I adored two glosses from Kylie Cosmetics, and I won’t be putting them down anytime soon. The pinky nude shade with pink and gold glitter throughout called Damn Gina is incredible. Kylie’s formula is super smooth, you can’t feel the glitter on your lips, they make your lips look so pouty and they look so dimensional! I’ve also been obsessed with the peachy shade Cupcake, which is part of her Twentieth Birthday collection. It’s super smooth and looks stunning on the lips, plus it’s a great day time option instead of its glitzy sister Damn Gina.

I’m not a huge fan of super matte liquid lipsticks as I have naturally dry lips, so when I tried out the Kylie Cosmetics Velvets, I fell in love! Their velvet formula means they don’t dry down completely matte, making them a super comfortable yet highly pigmented lipstick to wear. She’s recently released heaps of new shades, but the two I own are Charm and Dazzle, which I highly recommend. Charm is the perfect everyday pinky nude shade while Dazzle is a gorgeous, warm terracotta shade. I think I look a bit overdressed when I wear red lipstick, but Dazzle tip toes into the red area without looking wild, so I love wearing it even in the day time! I also think Kylie’s lip liners are incredible, they’re super pigmented and smooth, plus they match your lipsticks perfectly, so I recommend them!

Finally, in terms of a traditional lipstick, in 2017 my favourite shade by far was MAC’s Del Rio! While it looks dark in the tube, when swatched Del Rio is a stunning reddish plum shade that compliments my skin tone perfectly. I think nude lipsticks wash me out, but Del Rio gives my face so much life. I love running my pinky finger over the bullet before dabbing it into my lips, and that technique makes it look so much more natural. Putting a dark lipstick straight onto your lips can be a bit intimidating, so I love dabbing darker shades now.

So that is it for my 2017 Beauty Favourites! I genuinely feel a bit sad that another year is coming to an end, but I just know that beauty wise, 2018 will have literally heaps in store for me! I can’t wait to see new releases, try different brands and discover more beauty favourites to share here with you! What are some products you loved throughout 2017? Leave me a comment below, I’d love to know and get more recommendations!

As always, don’t forget to give this post a “like” if you enjoyed it so I know!

All the love,

    1. I’m not a huge fan on her matte liquid lipsticks as all liquid lipsticks dry my lips out further haha, I can not recommend her glosses and velvets enough! I hope you love whatever you decide to buy! 😄

  1. YASSS GRL! I was super late to the FitMe Concealer train, but I’m so glad that I finally gave it a shot! I too, found it super easy to blend 🙂

With regards to the mascara, did you find it to transfer and or flake easily? What’s the formula like?

  2. Juvia’s Place is next on my list for the eyeshadows! Though it can be a little bit more expensive if you’re ordering from overseas. Sometimes shipping is more costly than the product itself. I hope they can have an official stockist here in Australia soon.
