The Annual Treat Yourself Haul

Even though I run a beauty blog, my love affair with makeup is surprisingly up and down. I go through phases where I don’t care for any new releases, where I’ll find every new video uploaded by my favourite YouTube gurus to be completely the same and uninteresting, and my Mecca Beauty Junkie level will drain down to $0. But then! Months will pass and I’ll have an abrupt change of heart. Suddenly I’m hitting Instagram’s Bookmark button on photos of makeup that give me ultimate heart eyes, I’m walking into Mecca Maxima and chucking items into a basket with wild abandon, and I’m making an online order before my previous one from another brand has arrived. Currently, I’m the latter. Like clockwork, I tend to find myself falling back in love with makeup around the middle of the year. I use the fact that I’m half way through another university year to justify spending far too much money on items I clearly don’t need. Since I’m in my final semester of university, I’ve taken serious advantage of this being the last time I can justify buying a pricey NARS palette because ‘I just submitted an essay, yay!’ Since I took a little break with blogging, I ended up acquiring a bunch of things over the course of a fair few weeks and have dabbled with a bunch of them. So not only is this a haul, it’s also heaps of mini reviews as well. Keep reading to see what I treated myself too, why I wanted it, and what I think of it all! If you enjoy this post please give it a “like” so I know, and let’s get into the haul!

Anastasia Beverly Hills Norvina Eyeshadow Palette – If we’re doing this chronologically, I’ll start with my Norvina palette. I fell in love with this the minute I saw it on their Instagram and it immediately skyrocketed to the top of my Current Beauty Wishlist. While I passed on their Modern Renaissance palette, I do own their Soft Glam one and am completely blown away by the quality of their shadows. Even though their Subculture palette was a mess, I watched heaps of reviews online and decided to buy Norvina knowing it matched their amazing standard. I love the one purple shade in their Soft Glam palette, so when I saw this more purple themed palette that’s fun and still warm toned, I really wanted it! I’ll do a full review on it, but I’ve been so impressed all the times I’ve used it so far and absolutely love it.

Clinique Take The Day Off Balm – After posting the wishlist I linked above, one of my friends mentioned she had a mini sample of the Clinique makeup remover I featured in the post and gave it to me because she had never opened it and didn’t want it! So even though I didn’t buy this, I ended up getting it and love it! It feels so counterintuitive to apply a remover to your dry skin, but it melts with the heat of your skin and almost turns into an oil and really gets in and takes your makeup off. I’m really careful using it around my lashes because you do have to rub them a bit to get your mascara off, but once you rinse your face you’re left with the softest and cleanest skin!

Then I went to Mecca Maxima for the first time in forever completely lost control. I blame the section of miniature products. Let’s continue.

MAC Prep and Prime Fix+ – This product has been on my mental beauty wish list for honestly three years. I’ve never bought a primer or a setting spray (oh, how things have recently changed) because it feels weird spending so much money on something you can’t see. I also used to think Fix+ was too overhyped in the beauty community. But! It’s always and still is such a staple in everyone’s collections, so I decided to finally buy it when I saw the mini version. Now that I have it, I wish I bought it sooner. I think come Summertime I’ll be able to properly tell if it makes my makeup last longer, but so far I love it. It’s so refreshing (and addictive) to spray on your face, and when I left the house the other day I was genuinely annoyed I forgot to use it. I powder my face a lot so I think a setting mist just makes my entire base just melt together a little bit better and emphasises my highlighter a nice amount too. If you’re hesitant to buy it, look into the small version if you don’t want to commit to the giant bottle!

Hourglass Mineral Veil Primer – Just like Fix+, this holy grail Hourglass primer has been something I’ve always wanted to own. Considering 30ml of this stuff is a whopping $79, and the 59ml tube is $110, I finally opted to buy the tiny 8.95ml version for $27. I got a tester of this primer once in a Beauty Loop Box and was literally astonished at how soft this made my skin feel, and how beautiful my foundation sat on top of it, so I knew I was going to love it – and I do! It’s now my ‘special occasion’ primer because I can’t afford to wear it all the time (one day I hope to be the kind of woman who can restock her full sized, $110 tube of this stuff without a second thought.)

Revlon Photoready Brightening Primer – On the much more affordable side of things, I’ve discovered a primer for everyday wear! Just like setting sprays, I used to think primers weren’t that necessary. I was wrong. It does feel weird to not use one now. They just smooth your skin out and make your foundation look nicer, so if you can find an affordable one that works for you and you don’t mind adding another step into your makeup routine, I recommend them! I discovered this Revlon one through my sister because she owned it, and after stealing hers a bunch of times and actually noticing a difference, I finally bought my own! What I love about this primer is I actually do think it brightens up my under eye area, which means I don’t have to be so heavy with a concealer to try and cover up my dark circles. In summer when it’s super hot, I might just wear this underneath some powder as it evens out my skin tone and call it a day.

Urban Decay All Nighter Setting Spray – Much like Fix+, I bought the much loved Urban Decay Setting Spray because everyone and their dog has it and loves it. It’s the setting spray, apparently. I’ve used it and love it. Just like Fix+, it’s so refreshing and addictive to use, and I do notice a difference and think it melts all my products together really well to give my face that one final touch. Do I think one is better than the other? I’m not sure yet! I’ll have to give them the ultimate test in summer and will report back!

Too Faced Better Than Sex Waterproof Mascara – I used to adore the original Too Faced BTS mascara. It made my lashes look so thick and black and amazing that it looked like I was wearing falsies – until it would be all smudged under my eyes by the end of the day. I sadly stopped using it, so when the waterproof version came out, I became interested. I never actually bought it until now, when I picked up the mini version because it was almost half the price. Do I like it? Yeah! It is the biggest pain in the world to remove? Completely! I wore this once and still have flashbacks of how long it took to remove. The girl at the Mecca checkout asked if I had a waterproof mascara remover and I lied and said yes, and boy did I make a mistake. I should probably buy a proper remover, because I do actually like the mascara, and it didn’t smudge!

NARS Atomic Blonde Eye & Cheek Palette – I love this. I am in love with this palette. Just like Norvina, I’ll be dedicating an entire post to this palette. It’s so freaking beautiful and works amazingly and just… it’s everything. Do you know how long I’ve waited until I’ve discovered a chic, minimalistic palette that I can use every single shade of for a go-to look? A long time. And this palette is IT. There are four eyeshadows, a highlighter and a bronzer and it has the most beautiful ombre orange packaging. Also, it’s so damn photogenic. I love this palette. The quality is incredible and the highlighter is so glowy and dewy and natural looking that I find myself dusting it over my entire face half the time. I’ll stop talking about it and save the rest of my raving for my post about it coming soon.

Sugarpill x Trixie Mattel Oh Honey! Makeup Collaboration Collection – The final item in this mammoth haul is one that arrived just the other day! My jaw literally dropped and stayed like that for a full minute when I saw the reveal photo on Sugarpill’s Instagram. I died. I have never wanted a makeup item more. I considered setting my alarm for 3am when it was launched at the start of September, but when I thought against it and woke up at 7am instead, clicking ‘Place Order’ was the first thing I did when I thankfully saw it was still in stock. I haven’t even swatched it yet (except for the shade All Star which I just couldn’t help myself with) but it’s the most beautiful palette and lipstick with so much thought put into every detail. Full review post coming soon, of course.

So that’s everything! I’ve missed blogging so much and I’ve missed talking about makeup here even more, so having a bunch of new things to discuss over the coming weeks makes me so excited! I hope you enjoyed this post and found my quick reviews helpful! If you did enjoy this post, give it a “like” so I know.

    1. I’ve only ever really tried the Revlon one and the Hourglass one but they’re actually kind of similar! They both have a super lightweight matte finish on my skin. The Revlon one can be a bit temperamental, some days it works and some days I feel like it just messes with my foundation, whereas the Hourglass one is flawless every time! And yes, the Nars palette is absolutely beautiful! There is one shade with micro glitter in it and it adds so much dimension to a look 😍😍😍 Thank you so much for reading lovely! Xx

      1. I’ve recently bought Too Faced’s Hangover primer. I’ve used it a few times and it’s good so far, it’s hydrating which is good for my dry skin – what skin type do you have? That micro glitter shade sounds stunning xx

  1. Ooo, I purchased UD’s All-Nighter Spray this month, too! I haven’t used it yet but, I’ve never found anything close to as good as MAC’s spray since I stopped using it. Looking forward to seeing which one you think is better in the end. Oh! & the Sugsarpill palette is so pretty!

Nice to see you on my Reader again, Jessica! ♡
